November-December 2025 Palisade Boat Club Newsletter

THANK YOU FOR ANOTHER GREAT YEAR AT PBC!

Roel Kunst out for a sunset boat ride.

This month we are reporting on activities in both November and December. As fall winds its way toward winter and the end of 2025, the Hudson River and the Club remain magical places. There is beauty in every season. Thank you to all the members of the Palisade Boat Club for all that you do. Happy Holidays!

REPORTS FROM OUR FREE FALL CLASSES: Knot Tying, Rules of the Road On the Water, & Local Geology

On Sunday, October 26th we held two free classes. Check out the chart and participants in the Knot Tying class hosted by Alan Portanova, Eagle Scout. Use the chart below to try some knots out at home!

Rules of the Road on the Water was hosted by Jacek Polubiec, Avid Sailor. Check out the eight keys to understanding the rules below. Also, it wouldn’t be a PBC event without excellent snacks and beverages!

A third free class on Local Geology was offered on Sunday, December 7th and hosted by Jeff Rappaport. Geology is an outdoor science. This one hour presentation taught participants how to observe the natural environment for geological evidence. Using maps, photos, and images of nearby locations, Jeff explained the basic rock types, and how to identify them in the field. The Palisades across from the boat club was a focal point for many of the images and explanations about our physical setting. A rock and mineral kit with 40 hand-sized specimens was available for study and handouts were given to those who attended.

ANNUAL FLOAT REMOVAL - FUN & DONE!

Every year, a team of members puts the float in the water in the Spring and takes it out in the Fall. Thanks team!

Also, the mooring puller was rebuilt and is much sturdier now!  Big thanks to Roel, Chris, Les, Randy, and Eddie!

MEMBERS ON THE MOVE!

Check out members Justin Fornal in Mexico and Ryan Pogroszewski at Mt. Tremblant in Quebec. Justin is drinking the ancient Aztec beverage Pulque. It was the #1 drink in Mexico until beer became more popular. He was in Mexico researching what remains of the Pulque culture. Best of both worlds!

HAPPY 75TH BIRTHDAY EDDIE!

May your birthday be just the beginning of a year filled with happy memories and success.

A YEAR OF SUCCESSFUL FUN-RAISERS

We were able to raise $2,003 for the club in the fundraisers we hosted throughout the year. We will be looking to continue this in 2026.

The funds raised were originally planned to be used for composite decking in front of the float, but the Board has decided to replace the entire deck instead! We will be using wood for everything and looking to get this done in the spring. If you want to be involved with the project, please let Tracy Broome know.

Thank you to everyone who came to the events, helped with setup/cleanup and to all those who made donations!

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Chris Grieco for his incredible partnership with Tracy and dedication in helping host the fundraisers. He played a huge role in making every event a success. Thanks Chris!
